Aren't you loving the Black & White Food Photography Contest hosted on our FB page?
I am, and I really hope this little tutorial will inspire you to join in and try your hand at something new.
Sydney this week is very rainy and the black and white theme seems to fit in perfectly with the weather.
In the digital era everything is possible, and converting a coloured image to black and white is a trick even a child could perform; but if you have never tried, you might not know how simple it really is.
So, for those of you Photoshop users, launch Bridge and open up your image in Camera Raw
and this window will open with your original image
open this menu on the right
and you get to this other window
Check the " convert to grayscale " box and then have a play with those sliders; it's amazing how different an image you can create.
Obviously it's always recommendable to shoot RAW files, but the beauty of Bridge is that you can open any file, so also a jpeg, in Camera Raw and do what I just showed you.
The deadline for this Contest is Monday the 25th, so have a go at some B/W and send your images in.
And also consider sending your images in for a very special Critique, with the new round of posts starting this coming sunday; read about it here
